Centre of Registers Västra Götaland
Centre of Registers Västra Götaland is one of several centres of registers in Sweden that support the development of national quality registers. The registers are used to improve health care. It is the representatives for the different registers who decide which centre of registers they will be affiliated to. Around 25 quality registers are affiliated to the Centre of Registers Västra Götaland and utilise our services. A number are in the process of starting up. The oldest, the Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Register, has been in existence since 1979. Centre of Registers Västra Götaland offers newer registers access to the collective experience of the more established registers.
In-depth knowledge of quality registers
Centre of Registers Västra Götaland handles the registers' IT structure and carries out statistical processing. We help to measure the patients' experience of their care outcome. The term used is Patient Reported Outcome Measures – PROMs. We also provide the representatives for the different registers with know-how and information about quality development. Our system development experts, statisticians and development managers are specialised in quality registers. Their experience and expertise ensure that register representatives avoid having to learn what has already been learned elsewhere. A good example is how to decide which data needs to be gathered for the register. There are also considerable efficiency gains to be made when using IT solutions and approaches that have been adopted by others. All registers are different although if something works for one register it frequently works for another with some adaptation.
Extensive patient base
The extensive patient base for the registers offers unique opportunities for research. Some of the most experienced register researchers in Sweden are connected to us. New researchers are offered office locations, methodology support and a stimulating intellectual environment. Centre of Registers Västra Götaland has a little more than 30 employees. We have premises at Medicinaregatan 18 G in Gothenburg, close to Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
